Mohamed Athif
Mr. Mohamed Athif is the first-ever Mayor of Kulhudhuffushi City, elected in the Local Council Election held on 10th April 2021. He officially assumed office on 17th May 2021, marking a historic milestone in the city’s governance and development journey.
A dynamic and visionary leader, Mayor Athif began his career in the tourism sector and later served as a Customs Officer before transitioning into public service. His journey into leadership was shaped by years of grassroots volunteerism, civic engagement, and political activism. He has served as the President of the Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) for Kulhudhuffushi, demonstrating his long-standing commitment to community empowerment and participatory governance.
He currently serves as a Member of the Haa Dhaal Atoll Council and as a Board Member of the Maldives Local Councils’ Association. In addition, he has also served on the Board of the Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital.
Recognized for his collaborative leadership style, Mayor Athif has strengthened partnerships not only across local and national institutions but also at regional and international levels. Under his strong administration, he has prioritized transparency, accountability, and citizen participation, earning widespread trust and engagement from the community.
Through strategic planning, innovation, and global engagement, Mayor Athif continues to steer Kulhudhuffushi City toward a modern, resilient, and globally connected future, a vision that reflects both his passion for public service and his unwavering commitment to the people he serves.
